We consider geometric variational problems for a functional defined on a curve in three-dimensional space. The functional is assumed to be written in a form invariant under the group of Euclidean motions. We present the Euler-Lagrange equations as equilibrium equations for the internal force and moment. Classical as well as new examples are discussed to illustrate our approach. This new form of the equations particularly serves to promote the study of bio- and nanofilaments.

In this paper, we proved that the F_p completioin of fundamental group of an F_p shceme can be computed by the bar complex of Artien-Schreier differential graded algebra. Artin-Schreier differential graded algebra is obtained by a relation diagram of identity map and frobenius map by Kats' theorem.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) locality has recently raised a lot of interest in the community. Indeed, whereas P2P content distribution enables financial savings for the content providers, it dramatically increases the traffic on inter-ISP links. To solve this issue, the idea to keep a fraction of the P2P traffic local to each ISP was introduced a few years ago. Since then, P2P solutions exploiting locality have been introduced. However, several fundamental issues on locality still need to be explored. In...

We report on ac transport through carbon nanotube Fabry-Perot devices. We show that tuning the intensity of the ac gating induces an alternation of suppression and partial revival of the conductance interference pattern. For frequencies matching integer multiples of the level spacing of the system $\Delta$ the conductance remains irresponsive to the external field. In contrast, the noise in the low bias voltage limit behaves as in the static case only when the frequency matches an even multiple...

Remote observing of exoplanetary atmospheres is now possible, offering us access to circulation regimes unlike any of the familiar Solar System cases. Atmospheric circulation models are being developed to study these new regimes but model validations and intercomparisons are needed to establish their consistency and accuracy. To this end, we present a simple Earth-like validation of the pseudo-spectral solver of meteorological equations called IGCM (Intermediate General Circulation Model),...

It is shown that the fault testing for quantum circuits does not follow conventional classical techniques. If probabilistic gate like Hadamard gate is included in a circuit then the classical notion of test vector is shown to fail. We have reported several new and distinguishing features of quantum fault and also presented a general methodology for detection of functional faults in a quantum circuit. The technique can generate test vectors for detection of different kinds of fault. Specific...

We study group-testing algorithms for resolving broadcast conflicts on a multiple access channel (MAC) and for identifying the dead sensors in a mobile ad hoc wireless network. In group-testing algorithms, we are asked to identify all the defective items in a set of items when we can test arbitrary subsets of items. In the standard group-testing problem, the result of a test is binary--the tested subset either contains defective items or not. In the more generalized versions we study in this...

We report on observation and determination of rotational periods of ten weak-line T Tauri stars in the Cepheus-Cassiopeia star-forming region. Observations were carried out with the Cassegrain-Teleskop-Kamera (CTK) at University Observatory Jena between 2007 June and 2008 May. The periods obtained range between 0.49 d and 5.7 d, typical for weak-line and post T Tauri stars.

In this letter we present a solution to describe simultaneously the light isoscalar and isovector vector mesons in constituent quark models. In Ref. [1] the $q\bar q$ spectrum was studied in a generalized constituent quark model constrained by the $NN$ phenomenology and the baryon spectrum. An overall good fit to the available experimental data was obtained. A major problem of this description was the relative position of the vector $\omega$ and $\rho$ mesons. The present results improve the...

We address the inverse problem of designing isotropic pairwise particle interaction potentials that lead to the formation of a desired lattice when a system of particles is cooled. The design problem is motivated by the desire to produce materials with pre-specified structure and properties. We present a heuristic computation-free geometric method, as well as a fast and robust trend optimization method that lead to the formation of high quality honeycomb lattices. The trend optimization method...

We present infrared luminosities, star formation rates, colors, morphologies, locations, and AGN properties of 24 micron-detected sources in photometrically detected high-redshift clusters in order to understand the impact of environment on star formation and AGN evolution in cluster galaxies. We use three newly-identified z=1 clusters selected from the IRAC dark field; the deepest ever mid-IR survey with accompanying, 14 band multiwavelength data including deep HST imaging and deep wide-area...
